2016 Honda Pilot Release Date, Redesign, Price, Colors – The previous model of the Honda Pilot was one of the dullest looking cars on the road and it was described by many people as a box on wheels. There have been rumors about a new generation for more than a year now which predicted a better looking car which had a better engine as well as a bigger interior.
2016 Honda Pilot Redesign
Thankfully, all of these proved to be true after the release at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2015 of the 2016 Honda Pilot, the next generation full size crossover from the Japanese manufacturer.
Unlike the previous model, the new Pilot actually has a platform derived from that of the CR-V, so it actually lost almost 300 pounds thanks to that. This means that it should be more fuel efficient as well as a better performer than before. The only drawback of this platform is that the off-road capabilities went down, which may be a problem for some people, but considering most people are going to use it as a road car, it isn’t such an important drawback.
While the car was released just some time ago, the production model won’t come on the market by the mid of 2015, so Honda might change a thing or two until it is going to be officially released. Let’s start our preview with the exterior of the car because this is the thing which changed the most over the current generation.
2016 Honda Pilot Exterior
The car is bigger and it looks a lot like its smaller sibling, the CR-V. The front end features LED headlights as standard while the tail lights can be had with LED as an option. Thanks to the newer shape, the car is actually more aerodynamic than before which is going to reduce wind noise considerably.
2016 Honda Pilot Interior
The interior of the 2016 Honda Pilot was also changed quite a bit over that of the previous model. While that car had a dull interior which was okay but nothing too fancy, the newer generation is a lot better in every possible way. Firstly, it is bigger which also means that there is more roof for the passengers.
Secondly the car has now much better materials as standard such as premium cloth upholstery, aluminum inserts throughout the interior as well as a new 8 inch infotainment center and navigation unit which can also serve as a media center.
There are also a lot of new security features, most of them being borrowed from Acura. Some of these include the car position warning system which senses if the car is about to crash and makes small corrections of the steering and brakes which should reduce the risks considerably. A rear view camera as well as an automatic parking system can be had as pair extras.

2016 Pilot Honda Engine
Under the hood of the 2016 Honda Pilot there is a very similar V6 to the previous generation. This 3.5 liter unit though features direct port injection and a few other upgrades, such as a new exhaust as well as a new engine management system, all of which make for a nice power increase of around 290 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. While the engine doesn’t impress through power, it surely does with its 22 MPG on average fuel economy which is certainly better than the average.
Unlike the previous car, this one has two possible transmission options. The Pilot can be had with either front wheel drive or all wheel drive and a choice between a 6 speed manual which is a massive improvement over the older unit or a 9 speed automatic. The latter is Honda’s brand new gearbox and it has been used for the first time on the Pilot.
